A six-day training programme was organised for TCS librarians, in collaboration with the Department of Information Management Punjab University, from 22–27 August 2016. It was conducted by Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen (Chairperson), Dr Muhammad Rafiq (Associate Professor) and Dr Syeda Hina Batool (Assistant Professor).
A total of 32 librarians from the Central Region attended the workshop. Nadira Tahir (TCS Network Library Coordinator), and Regional Library Coordinators Saima Hanif (NR), Shazia Nasir (SR), Muhammad Zaheer (CR) observed the entire training. Four days of training were held at The Resource Centre–HO and two days were at the Punjab University Library IT Lab.
Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen shared information regarding the digital era of school libraries, the importance of social and communication skills, and the benefits of improvisation. She also demonstrated how to create a vibrant library.
Dr Muhammad Rafiq introduced KOHA, one of the most popular library softwares, during the two-day session at the Punjab University Library IT Lab. The participants learned about various searching techniques and digital libraries and had a hands-on experience. They also visited the Punjab University library.
Dr Syeda Hina Batool introduced the reading curiosity kits. Her session comprised various activities and lessons aimed at promoting reading habits among children, organising the library collection as per international standards using DDC and AACR2, emphasising the importance of information literacy and taking care of library material.
The workshop came to an end with a lunch at Lal Qila Restaurant and a group photo session on the last day. All the participants were awarded certificates by the Department of Information Management (PU).
