Talent Week 2014 at Darakhshan Campus

We all know how worked up one gets for a one-day event, and how everything is focused on ‘that’ day’s success. Multiply that by seven days and we get what Darakhshan Campus pulled off for Talent Week 2014.

What a brilliant way to get the year started! It was wonderful to see the blossoming of all the talent uncovered at Darakhshan Campus. Each participant had been well-prepped and to select just two out of all the possible winners was a task indeed. It was a splendid event which was graced by the presence of Mrs. Nudrat Sajid Khan (Regional Director Southern Region).

It all started on 9 January 2014 when the entire campus decided to demonstrate their creative writing skills in English. The next day, on 10January, each student once again wrote down creative essays, but this time in Urdu. There were four categories for both the English Story Writing Competition and the Urdu Story Writing Competition: Junior A Section, Junior B Section, Prep Section and Senior Section. For each category four winners were to be announced: The Winner, a Runner-Up, a Third Position holder and a Consolation Prize winner. Two further students who missed out on the top four positions would be honoured with Certificates of Participation.

The formal competitions started with Allah’s name through a Qirat Competition on 17 January 2014 hosted by the Senior Boys Section. Worthy praises filled the hall and warmed hearts. To judge these reciters, we had the renowned Mr. Mohammad Imran and Qari Habib-ur-Rehman on our campus. The categorisation remained unaltered but the contestants varied. Juniors A and B prepped their best 5 to compete whilst the Prep Boys, Prep Girls, Senior Boys and Senior Girls each sent in their best three. Winners and Runner-Ups were rewarded from each category and all participants were given certificates.

Next, the Prep Boys Section went into action and hosted the Naat Competition to commemorate the holiest of figures, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). On 20 January 2014, we were honoured by the presence of the judges, Ms. Tabinda Lari and Ms. Farhana Owais, who found it quite difficult to pick out winners as all the reciters’ voices were extremely soothing and rhythmic. Eventually, the Winners and Runner-Ups were decided and the rest received Certificates of Participation.

The Prep section also hosted a Prize Distribution Ceremony for the English and Urdu Story Writing Competitions which was held later on 23 January.

Moving from religious vocations to aesthetic ones, the Elocution Competition on 21 January was next in line. It was a spectacular event hosted by the Senior Girls Section and judged by Ms. Jumana Basrai, Ms. Shehla Fatima and Ms. Sandra Francis. The students were literally at their literary best!

To mark the end of the mega event, the Junior B Section hosted a Singing Competition. We had fanatic ‘shower’ singers and some really gifted singers rushing up to take part in this one! Every participant was determined to prove their claim to be a singer. Big names of The City School came to judge: Mr. Aamir Tariq (Regional Music Coordinator Southern Region) and Mr. Ali Rahman (Music Coordinator PAF Chapter).
