In August, A Level students Abdullah Munir (Ravi Campus) and Syed Maaz-ud-Din (A Level Gulberg Campus) had the privilege of attending Huawei ‘Seeds for the Future’ IT Summer Camp in China. The students left for Beijing on 13 August and were warmly welcomed by the Huawei staff. In Beijing, they learned about the Chinese language and culture at the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). It was a fun learning experience for them as they studied and interacted with students from other countries. They were also taken on visits to famous places such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.
Their second destination was Shenzhen, where Huawei Headquarters are based. They were taught about contemporary and cutting-edge telecommunication technologies such as 3G, 4G, and the upcoming 5G. Both of them took a keen interest in this technology as it is a relatively new thing in Pakistan. They were introduced to the different components and devices that are used in mobile communications.
They were also taken to Huawei’s control room, where they got hands-on experience in configuring various servers. Their stay in Shenzhen was not just studies and trainings; the students were taken to the beach and they also visited various shopping areas. They also watched a Chinese play at the famous China Folk Culture Village, which features displays of the daily life and architecture of China’s 56 ethnic groups.
The students returned home on 29 August 2015. The ‘Seeds for the Future’ programme was a huge success and the trip itself was very memorable. The students made new friends from different countries and the international exposure greatly enhanced their confidence and learning.
