Recycling Week, an initiative by Youth Programmes, was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Northern Region schools from 11-14 April 2016. It was aimed at creating awareness about the hazards of improper waste disposal, teaching students about the basics of waste management crucial for a healthy environment and to inculcate in them the habit of recycling.
The fun learning activities planned for the junior and senior students included watching the documentary ‘Addicted to Plastic’, artefact competition, ‘Life of an Object’ competition, presentations and guest speaker sessions. The students really enjoyed the activities and made several useful items including flowerpots, pencil holders, decoration items etc. Their extraordinary work was acknowledged through certificates and displayed in the schools.
A positive feedback was received from the staff and parents as the activities significantly helped in teaching the students about recycling.
