The City School students participated in the International Young Diplomats School Conference 2016 from 22–24 August. The aim of the conference was to equip them with diplomacy, leadership and decision-making skills to cope with the ever challenging environment. It was organised by COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Centre for Policy Studies and Institute of Peace and Diplomatic Studies (IPDS), in collaboration with International Young Diplomat School (IYDS).
The programme was designed to give the participants exposure to the practical application of diplomacy in the backdrop of international and global scenarios in the conduct of bilateral and multilateral relations. A workshop on ‘International Relations and Diplomacy’ was organised for the students, faculty members, graduates, young professionals and researchers.
The highlight of the workshop was a simulation exercise on the ‘Deteriorating Security Situation in Afghanistan: Kunduz September/October 2015.’ The participants were required to simulate the meeting of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) in the form of a role play, representing major countries present in Afghanistan.
The participants also visited the US and Turkish Embassies where they got the opportunity to meet their ambassadors and staff members. A dinner was hosted by CIIT for the students and resource persons and certificates were awarded to the participants at the end of the workshop.
This unique event proved to be a great source of learning for our students, developing their confidence and motivating them to participate in similar events in the future.
