Syed Faizan Haider Zaidi, a brilliant student from The City School A Level Campus Gulberg, has made us proud by winning a bronze medal at the 47th International Chemistry Olympiad. The competition was held in Azerbaijan from 20 to 29 July 2015. Faizan had the highest score among the students from Pakistan and secured 13th position out of 92 in the bronze category
Over 290 students from 79 countries participated in this global competition. The winners, according to their scores, were divided into three categories. Thirty-five students won gold medals, 63 students won silver and 92 won bronze medals. There were 10 honourable mentions and 100 students were given certificates of participation.
The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is an annual global academic competition for senior school students. At the farewell party, the new chairman of the Steering Committee of the International Chemistry Olympiad announced that the next Chemistry Olympiad would be held in Karachi, Pakistan, in 2016. Professor Nargiz Pashayeva, President of the 47th IChO, handed over the Flag of IChO to Head Mentor of Pakistan Team Professor Khalid Mohammad Khan.
It was a great learning experience for Faizan as he interacted with students, chemists, scientists, experts in chemistry, and educators from across the world. He also got the opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Baku and experience the culture and traditions of Azerbaijan.
