Inter-School Urdu Declamation Contest

The City School Jinnah Campus arranged the first ever declamation contest of its kind in the region by inviting six other schools from Inter-School Urdu Declamation Contest (1)Hyderabad on 26 November 2013. The competition was arranged to encourage logical and analytical thinking and public speaking skills of the students. The O Level Urdu teacher Mrs Abida Kulsim was overall in charge, and Senior Section HM Mr Nadir Hashmi and Principal Mrs Aaliya Khalid were the main organisers of the event.

The invitations along with the list of topics, rules and regulation, and details of the contest were sent to participant schools fifteen days prior to the competition, inviting them to send two students to speak on any of the given topics.

Inter-School Urdu Declamation Contest (13)The Media Group covered the entire event and teachers and admin staff were assigned different responsibilities to make the event successful.

The Chief Guest was the Assistant Controller of Examinations Mr Masroor Ahmed Zai, a writer, novelist, poet and columnist with seven books already published.  Dr. Abida Siddiqui, Assistant Professor at Sindh University, Ms. Nasim Ameer Alam, the recipient of numerous awards including the Orient Award and President Award in 2004, and Professor Shadab Ali Siddique , from Govt. Ghazali, Latifabad , adjudicated the contest.

The event started with the recitation and translation of Holy Verses by Ammar Khan from 9th  C and Nuzra Mashal from 10th T, followed by the National and School Anthems. The little angels of Junior 3 also performed during the school song. The Principal then welcomed the chief guest, the adjudicators and the participant schools following which the competition began with the students of The City School Liaquat Campus taking their turn first.

The City School Jinnah Campus students also delivered remarkable speeches but did not take part in the competition.

While the adjudicators were compiling the results, entertainment was provided once again by the adorable children of Junior 3 who took to the stage and delighted the audience with their marvellous performance of Allama Iqbal’s poem ‘ Chand Taare’.

The Chief Guest was so impressed by the announcers that he invited them to host one of the annual Debate Events arranged at the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad. Letters of Thanks were presented to the accompanying teachers of participating schools.

When the results were announced, the second runner up was Hamza Zameer of Sr 2 from The City School, Liaquat Campus, the first runner up was Aisha Nadeem of X1 From Hayat Girls’ Higher Secondary School and the 1st position was awarded to Mohd Taha of Foundation Public School.  Liaquat Campus was declared the runner up team while Hayat Girls’ Higher Secondary School emerged as the winning team. The top three speakers were awarded shields while the teams were given trophies.

Following the Vote of Thanks, refreshments were laid on for the guests and participants and the event was deemed a huge success.
