The girls from Darakhshan Campus were the first ones to sign up for the exciting trip to Turkey, organised by the Southern Region in December 2016 – January 2017. They were among the 30 students from Classes 9, 10 and 11 who embarked upon this journey to explore the magical cities of Konya and Istanbul, accompanied by three City School officials. Bahcesehir University (BAU) and Istanbul Aydın University hosted the students and gave them an enlightening glimpse into future university life.
During their trip, the students visited historic sites including the Topkapi Palace and Museum and the Blue Mosque. A whole day spent at the Princes’ Islands with bicycle rides and trekking was thoroughly enjoyed by them. The yacht cruise on the Bosphorus added to the charm of an already exciting trip and later a visit to Madame Tussauds in Istanbul provided much entertainment as the students posed for pictures with the wax figures.
Konya was equally, if not more, fascinating as it gave the aura of a winter wonderland after the heavy snowfall. The mesmerising performance of the Whirling Dervishes at the Rumi Cultural Centre was the cherry on top. The students were allowed some time to shop at different malls and to visit the famous Istiklal Street. They sampled a variety of cuisines and loved the delicious Turkish pizza with cheese.
It was a memorable trip for all of them as they not only enjoyed themselves immensely but also learned about the history, culture and traditions of the country.
