Dragon Tales – Sports Day 2016

Junior B Section of The City School Darakhshan Campus, Karachi organised the Dragon Tales Annual Sports Day on Saturday, 5 March 2016 to instil sportsman spirit and camaraderie in the students. The Chief Guests for the event were Mr Xu Zhijie (Cultural Consul) from the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China, Ms Nafisa Zanzibarwala (GM Academics SRO), Mr Intesar Haider (Regional Sports Coordinator SRO) and Major (R) Kamran Khan (Regional Security Manager SRO).

The ceremony started off with the recital of verses from the Holy Quran. The school choir sang the Pakistan’s national anthem followed by the “March of the Volunteers”, formally known as the national anthem of the People’s Republic of China, and the TCS anthems and a Hamd.

Class 5 students’ walk past was led into the ground by the flag bearers of Pakistan, People’s Republic of China and The City School.  The students took the oath and solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship. Following that, the torch bearers arrived and colourful balloons were released to symbolise the high spirits of the students. The drill display by Class 5 students left the spectators spellbound. The cheerleaders put up remarkable performances in-between track events. The day was filled with exciting victories and near misses for all the houses. The comperes reported and covered all the events remarkably. The highlight of the Sports Day was the Dragon and Lion Dance depicting a long standing tradition of good luck, replicating the rise and fall of the river spirits. The Taekwondo display was the showstopper, captivating the audience with fire ring display, block breaking, jump front kicks, 360° kicks, wood breaking by punching etc. The Mothers’ Race was an upbeat activity for parents and the teachers were also put to the test as they participated in the Teachers’ Race. The students enjoyed both the events and cheered them on.

The Green House was the overall winner of the Sports Day. The Dragon Tales Annual Sports Day 2016 contributed to the long-standing friendship between Pakistan and China. Ms Ujala Mansoor (Headmistress) and Ms Nadia Jafarey (Senior Mistress) thanked the audience and the members of the Chinese Consulate for their immense support and contribution in making the event a success.
