Students from The City School A Level Campus Gulberg (ALCG) made their mark at the SICAS Sports Fest 2015 held in Lahore from 9 – 11 October 2015. The 28 contestants from ALCG participated in five games and brought home medals and accolades for three: a bronze medal in badminton, a silver medal in the Cross Country race and the Winner’s Trophy in the Futsal tournament.
Our football team, under the guidance of Coach Sagheer Ahmad and leadership of Captain Awais Mahmood, managed to win the Futsal event after defeating tough competition. The ALCG team won in the pre-quarter finals against LACAS JT, then went onto defeat The City United, a private team of professional players, by scoring 3 goals to their 1. In the final, they defeated LACAS Gulberg after a tough match by scoring 4 goals.
Hamza Shahid made his mark in the Cross Country race by winning the silver medal. In the badminton tournament, Farrukh Hussain faced some tough opponents and defeated them to reach the semis and won the bronze medal. An honourable mention goes to Neelum Shahzadi for reaching the quarter finals in the singles category and qualifying for the second round in the mixed doubles event in badminton.
The SICAS Sports Fest 2015 saw the participation of 64 teams from schools across Pakistan and a number of private teams. Winning while facing such hard competition was no easy task. The SICAS contest brought the best in The City School System as a whole. Four City School campuses – Ravi, ALCG, DHA Alpha and Paragon – were participating in the event and all of the coaches and students worked together for the success of the school system rather than the individual campus. They cheered each other on and gave assistance, where allowed, to ensure that their school system wins as many accolades as it can.
