Urdu syllabus consists of three components and bears full credit. Components 1, 2 and 3 deal with language, whereas component 4 consists of poetry and literature. Components 2 and 3 are for AS level but Cambridge does not allow carry forward of the AS marks for complete A level, therefore it is always a composite exam. The detail of the components is as follows:
Component 2 Reading and Writing:
Component 3 Essay:
For component 3 there are always 5 set topics for each year. All those 5 topics are there in the question paper and candidates are required to write an essay on any one.
Component 4 Texts:
This paper has two sections. Each section consists of three texts with two questions on each text. Candidates are required to answer three questions on three different texts. All three questions are not to be answered from same section.
The City School offers Urdu in either one year or two years depending upon the campus.
Comprehensive support material is provided to the students, which includes notes for component 4, questions from past papers and comprehensive points for all five topics for paper 3 and entire preparation for paper 2 is done through past papers, which are specially reformatted for students.
Assignments on all three components are given to students on regular basis. These assignments are marked and discussed in class for a better understanding.
Urdu as a subject is being recognized at universities throughout the world.
