Law – 9084

The main aim of the Cambridge International AS and A Level Law syllabus is to provide learners with an introduction to the main principles of legal studies. At the City School, we ensure that at the AS level, learners build their knowledge and understanding of the English Legal System, and develop a critical awareness of its structure, personnel and operation at the AS level. This allows students to develop an initial understanding of how different legal systems work and the functions of their law officers. An overarching aim of studying Law at The City School is the development of knowledge, applicability and skills of learners so that they are effectively prepared for both academic and professional pursuits upon graduation for school.

During A2, the syllabus focuses on two areas of substantive law (contract and tort), and encourages learners to understand the technicalities of legal contractual obligations, their formation and nature, content. The Law of Tort introduces students to the liability in negligence, duty of care, trespassing and other responsibilities. These not only develop legal knowledge and skills, but also form the basis for developing socially and morally responsible citizens.
