Anam Gill completed her O Levels from Gulberg Girls Campus, Lahore in 2006. She did her Bachelors in Media Studies from Kinnaird College. She has been working as a freelance columnist for an organisation based in the UK, Dawn, The News and Express Tribune.
“Revisiting the time I spent at Gulberg Girls Campus was an interesting experience. Back in 2006, Ms Shabina Yousaf was our Headmistress. For me, school was about coping with the hectic O Level studies, yet participating wholeheartedly in most of the co-curricular activities organised by the campus. I remember, we once went to Karachi for an inter-regional basketball match and had a great time.
Some of my favourite teachers were Ms Izzat Jamal, Ms Zahra and Ms Raouna. Ms Zahra taught me to express myself using better words and Ms Izzat gave life to all the dull Mathematics classes. I had switched over from the Matriculation stream and she was the one who helped me score 90% marks in my final O Level exams.
Time passes by quickly and now I am working on various projects as a media professional. I have worked on several documentary films and the feature film Zinda Bhaag. I also write for Dawn, The News and Express Tribune, and have worked for the United Nations and other related organisations. It has made me realise how things have changed for me, from once struggling with words at school to expressing myself without any fear at all.
I give credit to all my teachers for making me who I am today. I know I still have a long way to go, but I will take their advice and their smiles with me, wherever I go.”
